Baptism of the soul

The soul is the inner part of us that expresses what is going on in us, past present and ? for the future. It does this through the emotions, good and bad, and the thoughts and imaginations. It forms ideas and opinions of who we are. But where does it get its information?
From two sources. 1) What we see and experience on the outside with our senses. And 2) What we receive from the inside with our spirit. This is a deeper level. This is where the river of life is…We can measure how deep we are in the river of life by what our soul expresses. Matt 11:28, 1Peter 1:9, Hebrews 10:39.
So depending on what is informing the soul is how we feel about life.
Where does the river come from? When did the river begin to flow?
John 4:14 But the water (My Spirit) that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”The soul can get drawn into expressing anything at random and get hijacked and caught unawares. Our life can be like a confusing movie, or like a purposeful story with meaning and intention, and the same challenges and obstacles. But who is in charge of the script?
NB. We learn to walk out of the wrong movie and into the real story!
What was at the deepest level of humanity before the river began to flow?
Before Jesus, humanity was a living soul. Of course they had a spirit but it was hidden – God had placed eternity in the hearts of mankind
Ecclesiastes 3:11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end. The connection was always there but not the oneness. He reveals himself in his time and in his way. So there was a God connection for our spirit to be touched by God like David was and Abraham and Moses, to be led and to walk with God.
But their spirit was separate to God’s Spirit and they could only connect to God when God chose to do it. People with a heart after God would wait for God to touch them.
Jesus was the first human to be not just a soul, but a life giving spirit.
1Corinthians 15:45 And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living soul.” The last Adam (Jesus) became a life-giving spirit. However, the spiritual is not first, but the soulish, and afterward the spiritual. The first man was of the earth, made of soil; the second Man is the Lord from heaven. As was the man of soil, so also are those who are soilish; and as is the heavenly Man, so also are those who are heavenly. And as we have worn the likeness of the man of soil, let us wear the likeness of the heavenly Man.
Jesus has given humanity his life giving spirit so that we also can now be life-giving spirits. This why he came and died and rose again.
John 4:14 But the water (My Spirit) that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”
Matthew 3:16 When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him.
